Girl geeks rocked the Looking Glass Club launch party

It was definitely Girls On Top last night at the Looking Glass Club launch party.  All three of the finalists in the kick-off competition for the Amazon Kindle were female.

Congratulations to Emma Styles who won the tie-break question by guessing the closest value for the height of the Queen’s Tower (287 feet, she guessed 292) as well as correctly solving the first puzzle. She took home a shiny new Amazon Kindle for her efforts.  The look of amazement and joy on her face when she realised she’d won was such a delight to see.  Pics to follow.

Well done to the runners up, Rox Middleton and Françoise Mace, who narrowly missed taking home the Kindle, but took home a bottle of champagne each.

Six people in total submitted correct answers, which looked like this:

Yep, the cat is alive! All you had to do to solve the puzzle is interpret the ‘yes’s as black squares to get the picture out.  Can you solve puzzles 2,3 and 4 to compete for the iPad? If you’re ready to have a go, you can check your solutions here.

Well done to Sean Farres, David Mogg and Pru Parkes who also submitted correct solutions. (It would have been rather apposite had David Mogg won, we feel). Commiserations to the many who came close-but-no-banana (Kathy Hoath and Belinda Davis to name a couple)

The night was a huge success and as a surprise Gruff unveiled the Looking Glass Club commemorative cocktail: the Metapolitan.  It’s certainly mind-bending formula! If you fancy giving it a whirl, here’s how you make it:

Thanks to everyone for coming and making the evening such a special night. Huge thanks to everyone who helped organise: Paul Hanson (especially for suggesting a cocktail and naming it), The Falmouth Keogh team who did a sterling job behind the bar, Alfie on books, and a massive thanks to Dan Read, Hiren Joshi and Bjorn Solarin who worked for weeks beforehand to make the event really special.  We’ll post a link to the amazing Looking Glass Club-inspired film that Bjorn made.
